Hello! We are the Tenku Festival Food Department and we are introducing our top 10 Beppu restaurants picks in our "Beppu Tenku Restaurant" event.
The Tenku Festival is unfortunately online again this year due to the coronavirus which is why we wanted to do something that would include the restaurants that had originally planned to have a food stall if the festival was held on campus. After some discussion, we came up with the idea to introduce each place via video and blogs. We can guarantee that you will want to try our restaurant picks after watching! This time we are introducing Hokkaido Dining HAL located in Ekimae Honmachi.
We were able to speak with the owner of Hokkaido Dining HAL who is a graduate of APU.
As the name "Hokkaido Dining" suggests, Hokkaido Dining uses ingredients produced Hokkaido, such as potatoes and oysters, and are all imported directly from Hokkaido! It is also important to note that this restaurant's food is highly rated by their customers!
Staff are cheerful and welcoming, making for a good time for everyone.
There are counter seats, table seats, and tatami rooms (private rooms) so you can enjoy talking with your dining companions.
"Hokkaido Dining HAL" used to be a bar, but the shop has been renovated and re-opened as an izakaya.
The owner of Hokkaido Dining HAL fondly remembers when he was an APU student and used to enjoy cherry blossom viewing (hanami) with his friends under the cherry blossom trees behind the cafeteria.
APU students are recommended to try Hokkaido's unique fried chicken, cream pasta using three types of cheese, and raw oysters! Try the raw oysters topped with salmon roe - something that can only be found here!
Hokkaido Dining HAL is also open for lunch. Recently, salmon bowls and roast beef bowls are both popular lunch choices.
