Hello! We are the Tenku Festival Food Department and we are introducing our top 10 Beppu restaurants picks in our "Beppu Tenku Restaurant" event.
The Tenku Festival is unfortunately online again this year due to the coronavirus which is why we wanted to do something that would include the restaurants that had originally planned to have a food stall if the festival was held on campus. After some discussion, we came up with the idea to introduce each place via video and blogs. We can guarantee that you will want to try our restaurant picks after watching! Please support Beppu's local businesses and check them out!

This time we are introducing a chicken specialty store called "Umakei Shonin Jidoriya"!
This shop is located in Shohaen and has been in business since September 2016.
The name ‘Jidoriya’ means that they sell fresh chicken raised locally in Oita.
Jidoriya used to come to APU to sell chicken on the first floor of F building. They sold various dishes such as fried chicken, chicken nanban, bento boxes, and yakitori rice bowls at affordable prices for students. Among them, chicken nanban and fried chicken are very famous because they were "halal food", so everyone could enjoy it. International students were also able to enjoy halal Japanese fried chicken without worrying. (I also used to buy and eat chicken lunch boxes!)
Currently, they have reduced their menu because of Covid-19 and aren't offering halal options at the present time. It is possible to enjoy halal fried chicken at a Pakistan curry restaurant and other restaurants that have enjoyed a long relationship with Jidoriya. (Jidoriya taught these places how to make it using the original Jidoriya recipe!) Please visit the Pakistani curry store as well!

The owner of the restaurant said that his best memories of selling lunch on the APU campus was being able to establish good relationships with students and see them grow and mature. He was especially able to maintain a good relationship with the APU’s baseball team and other athletic clubs. The baseball team sold oden that he made at the Tenku Festival a few years ago which we were very surprised to hear.

Lastly, a message for APU students from Jidoriya !
“Don't let COVID-19 stop you from doing your best! Make sure to study hard to prepare for your future. Please continue to share information about Beppu with people from all over the world.”

Thank you for your cooperation!
