Uchinokama Community Center (Uchinokama Public Hall) in Kamegawa
PROJECT B–supported initiative “Silver Link Gaming” (organized by the student eSports club) held a Game Experience Event for Seniors on Wednesday, February 23 at the Uchinokama Community Center (Uchinokama Public Hall) in Kamegawa.
A total of 19 senior participants attended the event. Some even arrived 30 minutes before the start, filling the venue with a sense of anticipation.
The games prepared for the event included:
・Taiko no Tatsujin – a rhythm game that gets the body moving
・Mario Kart – thrilling and competitive racing
・Tetris – a game that keeps the brain fully engaged
・Solitaire – a quiet, concentrated card game
The lineup ranged from physical activity games to brain‑training games, offering a wide variety for participants to enjoy.
Although many seniors appeared slightly nervous about gaming at first—despite looking forward to it—their expressions softened once they began playing. Soon the venue was filled with laughter, cheerful conversations, and a lively atmosphere.
During the feedback session after the event, participants shared comments such as:
“I haven’t laughed this much in my entire life.”
“I’m really glad I came.”
“It was so much fun.”
“Through gaming, I was able to talk with people I didn’t know. I’m grateful.”
These remarks showed that gaming is not just entertainment, but also a meaningful catalyst for connection between people.
More than half of the participants expressed a desire to join future sessions, leading to the decision to continue the program once a month or more.
Silver Link Gaming aims to use the joy of play as an entry point to foster intergenerational交流 among seniors, APU students, and younger generations. Through the mental and emotional stimulation that gaming provides, the group hopes to contribute to enriching daily life and helping prevent cognitive decline among seniors.
From this event, it was clear that senior participants seek not competition, but smiles, conversation, new challenges, and connections across generations through gaming.
The student representative, Mr. Nozu, expressed a strong commitment to continuing activities that bring smiles to the senior community in the Kamegawa area.
